Civic Online Reasoning: Sorting Fact from Fiction on the Internet

This institute will introduce participants to the Stanford History Education Group’s Civic Online Reasoning curriculum. Participants will learn strategies to help their students become more discerning consumers of information they encounter online. 

This three-session institute will address the following topics:

  • Research behind the Civic Online Reasoning curriculum
  • Overview of Civic Online Reasoning curriculum design principles
  • Modeling strategies of professional fact checkers
  • Integrating online sources about current events into the curriculum
  • Assessing students’ ability to evaluate digital content

   
Each session will include opportunities to engage with Civic Online Reasoning materials as part of a large group and in small breakout groups. Participants will learn strategies for implementing these resources in their classrooms.
   
Participants will receive a digital record of completion. Participants who complete the course and assigned homework will be eligible for 1 CEU, issued by the Stanford Center for Professional Development.
