A pioneer in online and global education.

The Stanford School of Engineering has a long history of innovation in extending learning beyond the Stanford campus. Five decades ago, we created the Stanford Instructional Television Network to educate engineers remotely at four Bay Area technology companies. Stanford Engineering faculty created some of the world’s first MOOCs, or massively open online courses, significantly increasing access to learning around the world. Our faculty conduct groundbreaking, interdisciplinary research that has helped transform the worlds of information technology, communications, health care, energy, business and beyond.

Today, Stanford Engineering offers a wide range of non-residential educational opportunities, including accredited Stanford master’s degrees, graduate and professional certificates, numerous professional online courses, and access to hundreds of individual lectures and courses for matriculating students and a global audience.

Stanford Engineering is the home to the Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD), a leader in online and extended education. SCPD manages Stanford Online and works with Stanford faculty across all 7 schools to offer learners access to Stanford’s catalog of extended education and lifelong learning opportunities both on campus and around the world. SCPD also brings a Stanford education to companies and organizations, offering a range of services from lightly tailored to highly customized programs.
